Celebrating 140 Years of St Andrew's Cathedral School in 2025
Friday, 13 December 2024

Next year marks a momentous milestone for St Andrew's Cathedral School as we celebrate 140 years of history, tradition, and excellence. As part of the festivities, we are thrilled to announce a series of special events and initiatives tailored to our amazing Old Andreans of all ages, in addition to our regular reunions held at 1, 5, 10, 20, and 30-year intervals. Here's a sneak peek at what's to come:

Yarn Wrap

Already well underway, the Yarn Wrap project is shaping up beautifully. A huge thank you to all the Old Andreans who have contributed to this collaborative endeavour. We're excited to unveil the finished work early in Term 1, so stay tuned for this colourful celebration of our community. A special thank you to Emma Diaz (OA2023) who has helped assembling the hundreds and hundreds of squares, ready for the installation.

140 Merchandise

Throughout 2025, a special range of 140th-anniversary merchandise will be available for purchase. From ties, badges and ribbons to coffee mugs, keyrings, and aprons, there's something for everyone to commemorate this significant year. Grab yours before they sell out. There will be more information on how to purchase the merchandise in the next edition of Alumni News.

140 Year Celebration Commencement Assembly

Launching our anniversary celebrations, the 140 Year Celebration Commencement Assembly will take place at the Sydney Town Hall on Monday, March 3rd. This milestone event, held only once every decade, will bring together the Governor of NSW, former Heads of School, former School Captains, School Council members, staff, and all current students to honour our history, culture, and traditions. Old Andreans will play a key role in the celebration. Perhaps you remember your assemblies to celebrate the centenary, the 120th or the 130th?

140 Student Leader Celebration

On Friday, March 14th, we'll host a special event for all former Captains, Prefects, and student leaders. This celebration is a unique opportunity to reconnect, share stories of your time at SACS, and reflect on your journeys since leaving the school. We look forward to welcoming you back to where your leadership paths began.

Chorister Reunion

No celebration of St Andrew's Cathedral School would be complete without recognising our foundation as a School for Cathedral choristers. In Term 1, 2025, we'll host a Chorister Reunion, featuring a Choral Evensong and the traditional Choir Tea. Former choristers will also have the chance to sing with the Cathedral Choir on this memorable occasion. Details to follow soon.

140 Gala Ball – Dancing in the Starlight

Our spectacular 140 Gala Ball will be held on Saturday, May 24th. This special edition of our biennial gala dinner will be a night to remember, celebrating our school's legacy with elegance and style.

SACS 140 Lego Competition

Get creative with our 140th Anniversary Lego Building Competition! Open to all ages, this competition invites our whole community, including Old Andreans to craft Lego creations inspired by SACS. Unique prizes await the winner, so start brainstorming your masterpiece today.

Fair in the Square and Heritage Museum

To celebrate our 140th anniversary, the much-loved Fair in the Square (or Carnevale from OAs from 2006-2017) is making a special return on Friday, September 19th. Featuring rides, games, and stalls, that will hit your nostalgia bone, this event is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with the School community. As always, the Fair wouldn't be complete without out talented students filling Sydney Square with music. We warmly invite Old Andreans to drop in and say hello and potentially volunteer with the Old Andrean Association's contribution.

Part of the event will include Celebrating our Heritage, up pop-up museum celebrating the rich history of SACS, carefully curated from our School archives. This unique exhibition will be open to visitors during the Fair on the Friday, and will also welcome alumni for a visit on Saturday afternoon. Don't miss this opportunity to explore the legacy of SACS, and perhaps spot a photo or two among the exhibits.

OA Trivia Night

Finally, get ready to "party like it's 1885" at the OA Trivia Night on Saturday, November 22nd. Hosted by the Old Andreans Association, this fun-filled evening will feature exciting trivia challenges and perhaps even special guest appearances by former staff members. Gather your table and compete for the ultimate Andrean prize!
